They will be discussing the opening of the unfiltered search engine with the Chinese government, and they are considering shutting down their services in the country if it fails. [The Official Google Blog]
  • There are two groups on Facebook with almost 200,000 members, who are protesting against potential fee charges, but  Facebook's spokesman dismisses the claims, saying that they have no plans to charge for the service. [Telegraph]

It's the morning before Chritmas and the weather is just lovely! Here's today's top stories to keep you in the mood.

  • Just what the country needs, a recognition -- of being a rogue nation by the United States and its counterparts, thanks to the stolen jet planes by senior security personnel, which begs the question of the effectiveness of the Malaysian security establishment. [Malaysian Insider]
  • The fashionable trend of keeping wildlife as pets is a dangerous and hazardous one, according to Sahabat Alam Malaysia, after the Selangor Department of Wildlife and National Parks uncovered the apartment in Desa Pandan. In fact, many who keep exotic animals at home do not even possess the proper licence. [New Straits Times]
  • A gun-wielding disabled man in a wheelchair held five people hostage in a post-office in Virginia, had fired into the air but none were injured. The surrounding area of Wytheville was evacuated for the safety of the residents. [CNN]
  • A collision between a passenger ferry and a fishing boat in the Philippines caused 27 to go missing at the Manila Bay. Forty-six passengers were rescued out of the 73 that were on the ferry, but it was unclear how many were on the fishing boat. [The Star]
  • A Thai-Swedish male supermodel, Patrick Ribbseater, stripped to save abused elephants in Thailand. As a campaigner of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), he has already stripped twice, and he will continue to strip for these poor animals who are forced to perform stunts for the circus. [Daily Chilli]
  • Whatever happened to Cleopatra and Antony? As one of the most famous and powerful couples in the world, historians have always wondered about their tragic ending but archeologists have found a large granite threshold which was believed to be part of her mausoleum, shedding new light on her history. [The Guardian]
  • After 23 years, veteran actors and long-standing couple Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins have called it quits over a summer holiday. They have two sons together, but never actually exchanged the vows of mrriage. [Telegraph]

Friday is here. (Yay!) Let's see whether we can find anything to amuse ourselves with, today.

  • Religion redux: former Perlis mufti Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin says that the imposition of tauliah, or authorisation from religious authorities, for those who wish to deliver sermons is an infringement of free speech. [Malaysiakini]
  • Here's an article about the nomadic Batek tribe -- whose way of life is under threat from deforestation. This communities lives in the Gua Musang district; interestingly, the story calls this "mainland Malaysia". Wait. So what's Sabah and Sarawak, then? [Reuters]
  • Wook Kundor, aka the 107-year-old cougar, is pining for her 38-year-old husband, who is in drug rehab. She is petitioning the government to release her man. [The Star]
  • It'll be the 20th anniversary of the Berlin Wall's fall, come 9 November; the MTV European Music Awards 2009 featured performances by U2, Foo Fighters and Leona Lewis to remember the event. [Daily Chilli]
  • Unfortunately, MTV has erected a two-metre barrier around the U2 concert, to keep Berliners without tickets out. Er, isn't the point celebrating walls coming down? [Irish Times]
  • Possibly television's crowning achievement, the 5-season Baltimore drama The Wire (though "drama" doesn't fully describe it, not be a long shot), is now the subject of its own course, at Harvard. [New York Post]
  • Chinese new agencies have reported on the existence of Chako Paul City, a 25,000-woman city of lesbians, supposedly in Sweden. Swedish authorities: “I've no idea where this came from, but it's not true." The Swedes are hiding something from us. [Newser]
  • Culinary serendipity: the original recipe of Lea and Perrins' Worchestershire Sauce has been found! [Daily Mail]
  • A former cat owner euthanised her pet after repeated lectures by PETA interns about the dangers of letting felines outdoors. Confined to the house, Hoity went nuts, and owner Lydia Netzer put him to sleep. [Washington Post]
