  • Penelope Cruz is a cute lil' pirate in these new set pictures of Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides. New reason to watch the movie? Definitely. [Latino Review]
  • The police in the Philipines have nabbed a gruesome killer of nine lives by using Facebook! One of the victims was an ex-girlfriend and the link was found through Facebook. [The Straits Times]

It's Monday: the sun is out -- and it's sweltering. You're in the office, freezing. Par the course, then.

  • Tell it like it is, brother! UMNO maverick Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah says that Malaysia is a "democracy existing in name, but grievously compromised in substance, reality and fact". [The Malaysian Insider]

Decade in Review: 9 most significant Malaysian happenings (2006 - 2008)

Just two weeks to go before our current century enters the Tens! As we look forward to breaking resolutions and more historical shenanigans, perhaps it's worth reviewing how we got to this point?

In this, the third of our epic tour of the Noughties (read parts one and two via these finely crafted links), we scrutinise 2006 through to 2008, beginning with murder and ending with unfulfilled promises.

Yet another week. Some stuff to amuse you afore you start your Monday (or take a break from it).

  • Malaysian voters like PAS spiritual leader Nik Aziz over president Hadi Awang. Not surprising. It's like comparing between Yoda and Hayden Christensen's Anakin. [Malaysian Insider]
  • Anwar show he's doing something by telling PKR party members to perform, or just "leave the party and join UMNO". [Malaysian Insider]
  • If your household is host to a domestic maid, be prepared for surprise visits from the Home Ministry come December. It'll be a "friendly visit"; if you are found mistreating your help, you will be "given counselling". For their trouble, maids will be given a pamphlet about their rights. This is so going to work! [New Straits Times]
  • Translation-fun filter: #filemBIdalamBM takes movie titles and quotes and translates them. "Anda mahu kebenaran? Anda tidak boleh menangani kebenaran!" Or: "Mati Keras 2: Mati Lagi Keras" [Twitter]

  • A petition by DJs, musicians and club owners says that Paris's nightlife is dying. It's "being relegated from the City of Light to the ... European capital of sleep" due to overzealous legislation, apparently. Yawn. [guardian.co.uk]
  • No Doubt's filed a suit against videogame giant Activision for using their likenesses as a "virtual karaoke circus act" in Band Hero. [Alternative Press]

  • The mysteries of Mother Nature: a collection of weird animal signs. What's a sheep drop? [telegraph.co.uk]
