Heineken Music presents Impulse: A Junk Music Project (November)
As past Heineken Music Presents Impulse: A Junk Music Project had demonstrated, music and visuals go hand-in-hand. In August, we had Drip from the Philippines and new-found Malaysian duo Milli’z performing to the visuals of Altered Image and The Hoo. In November, the line-up is exploding in numbers and in talent.
First, let’s welcome from Thailand, the band Katsue. The two members of the band are fixtures in Bangkok’s underground scene – heard of Joni Anwar and Montonn Jira? If you haven’t, we suggest you head over to the band’s MySpace at www.myspace.com/katsueband to have a listen at their brand of electro that is laidback and filled with joyful melody. Katsue, their collaborative project, recorded their album entitled “And So It Goes …” was recorded in Manhattan and shows off a polished, well-rounded sound that draws comparison to artistes like Whitest Boy Alive, Zero 7 and a pop-ier Telefon Tel Aviv.
Also on the roster is Malaysia’s S.U.P.A who will shake it up with their mix of music from genres like trance, rock and hip hop. Don’t think that can be done, and done well? Listen for yourself at www.myspace.com/supaunique. The next act needs no introduction to those familiar with the club scene as it’s Love International’s RaySoo. Expect a mix of dark, progressive tunes to get your groove on to.
And let’s not forget the artists providing us with visuals for the night – Stephen Lau (already an established name in the visual arts scene, having done work for everyone from Nike to Zouk), the trendy, quirky two of Kraftgrafik, award-winning independent filmmaker Justin Ong, irreverent and funky duo of Mart & Micki, and Cathaphrax who’ll offer a different, darker viewpoint. All in all, it’s an event with much to hear and loads to see. So people, once again, with feeling!
