Kick, Push and Ollie
Posted on 03 February 2008 by didiThe skateboarding culture has always been prevalent in Malaysia. But the skate movement really blew up when we hosted the first ever Asian X-Games back in 1998. Since then, we’ve seen local skaters such as Padin and Joe Ipoh rise up the ranks internationally. With the government now taking keen interest in the sport, more and more skate facilities are being built, like the freshly laid concrete skate park in Shah Alam.
Fresh graduate Shahree Zane whose main passion is skateboarding recently opened Push, which is located just a stone’s throw away from the Shah Alam Extreme Park in Section 13. Push can be described as a haven for skate enthusiasts in the Klang Valley and even sponsors its own fleet of talented and upcoming skateboarders. Setting itself apart for the slew of skate shops around, Push is only one of two stores that retail the ever-popular Supra brand.
They also carry a range of international skate brands such as Emerica, Etnies, Es as well as local independent skateboard brands like Ollicat skateboards, Panarama and One 3 Zero. Equipment aside, Push offers cool threads too with brands Street Signal, Osixnine, Kisscoke, KL Caps as well as Singaporean brand, Wear & Tear. Zane hopes that Push can become a platform that is able to help local independent brands, bands, artists and skaterboarders gain access to the wider community. Seemingly more than just a skate shop, Push might actually “push” Klang Valley’s youth to become more proactive and cultivate a healthier lifestyle through the passion for skateboarding.
