Despite a book cover reminiscent of Babe and his barnyard friends, Animal Farm’s swine characters assume roles of Bolshevik revolutionaries that overthrow the human owners of the farm to set it up as a community in which all animals are equal. However, the Marx, Lenin and Stalin-esque piglets overlook the ideologies of class and status disparities that quickly disrupt their master plan for a utopian society.
This political satire was written in 1945. This year, the Pentas Project will relate and continue to question the complications of power and greed, capitalising upon the discontentment of society and the ways in which those in positions of social and political power can easily manipulate a society’s ideologies. Animal Farm marks the return of a Loh Kok Man production, the multi-BOH Cameronian Arts Award winning founder of the Pentas Project.
Expect to be in good hands in every theatrical aspect, because this is the man who’s been winning best director, lighting design and script awards for consecutive years. Under his wing is a cast that consists Chan Huen Phuei, Gan Hui Yee, Lim Tiong Wooi, Ling Tang and Moo Siew Kah. Interested? It would be advisable to purchase your tickets well before at KLPac Box Office.
