Where's Your Head At?

The last we saw of Heineken Green Room was in 2006 at Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre where Munich-based Chicks On Speed wowed the crowd with their unconventional, avant-garde electro. It’s been two long, lonely years since that fateful night but on 1 November, Heineken Green Room will return to KL shores with a whole new concept and even more interesting artistes in its line-up.

Embracing the love for all things cutting edge and fresh, this year’s Heineken Green Room will salute the growing creative community, both local and international. In a day and age where genre lines and boundaries are constantly being blurred, and where the music experience is amplified by fashion, art, design and more, Heineken prefers to throw labels in the wind and define Green Room as a state of mind. It’s entirely up to the individual to interpret as they see fit.

 On their end, they’ve scheduled performances by three genre-fusing acts: Australia’s VAN SHE, Tokyo’s Dexpistols and our very own LapSap. Dance-rock outfit VAN SHE is hot on the lips of today’s music tastemakers for their electro-rock-pop sound and floor-filling remixes of tracks like Feist’s “1, 2, 3, 4”. The Dexpistols DJ duo, on the other hand, is no new name to the music scene having played in festivals the world over. DJ Daruma and DJ Maar have been dubbed as the Daft Punk of Japan and this event will mark their debut performance in KL – finally!

If the music does not prove to be a big enough draw (gasp!), we are particularly excited about the Heineken Green Room State of Mind Project. Although we can’t reveal much about the project at time of writing, let’s just say that Heineken have roped in local talents like DJs Blink and Xu of LapSap, celeb blogger KinkyBlueFairy aka Joyce Wong, designer Jimmy Lim and design collective Bombshelter Studios to help define just what their Green Room state of mind is. Watch this space, and consider this an advanced warning!
