Bake With Yen

Review | Posted on 29 July 2008 by sookmei

Bake With Yen is like a Tesco of baking supplies. The Taman Megah branch serves as the neighborhood supplier of baking needs, anything you want to get your cookies and cakes rolling can be found here. The interior of the shop is reminiscent of any ordinary kedai runcit with shelves decked with items, freezer at the front and a cashier by the entrance.

Only the over-powering smell of pastry assures you that you're at the right shop. One side of the shelf is packed with myriads of essence one could stop fussing, anything from apple to peppermint, butter oil to lychee. One corner showcases all the types of flour available, like tapioca or sugi flour, while another has packages of mixed fruits, nuts and even corn flakes that you can decorate your pastry with.

All the ingredients are halal and suitable for anyone and everyone. Utensils like a rolling pin or heart-shaped moulds, anything you need for your baking purposes can be found here. Your finished product can be nicely packed into decorative boxes that Bake With Yen also have for sale.

Prices here are relatively cheaper than any other similiar shops. The staff are willing enough to accommodate your questions and help in your search for the things you need, but do watch out for the grouchy cashier, she is not as friendly as she seems.

I used to buy things from bake with yen too, but in Jalan TAR.....The chinese cashier here just look alike the cashier you have mentioned up there....."got wind"-if we say in cantonese. Ya.....the things are cheaper than any other shops but some of it quite expensive like metal make products

YES ..I TOO VISITED THE SHOP TO PURCHASE THE PIE TEE MOULD..THE TUDONG WEARING CHINESE LOKKING CASHIER HAS A UNFRIENDLY APPROACHING ATTITUDE...CANT APPROACH HER TO ASK ANYTHING AND IT HAS TO BE SELF SERVICE FOR 1ST TIMER LIKE ME TO THIS SHOP..LOOKING FOR OTHER ALTERNATIVE SHOP..UNLESS THEY CHANGE THE ATTITUDE OF STAFF !!

i've been to the Bandar Puteri outlet and got the same problem with one of the cashiers there too! (it's the chinese lady with long permed hair)
I asked if they have a particular jelly mould and she looked at me as if i screamed profanities in her face, and barked at me, "If it's not there then there's no more, no more!"
Having said that, the other cashier, also Chinese but with glasses on, was very accomodating. She got her colleague to check and it turned out that they do have what I asked for.
