SpaceRock Music Festival

Gigs in the Valley can get repetitive after a while. It’s always the same names, at the same venues with a bazaar thrown in for good measure. After all, what good is a gig these days if you don’t have a little shopping going on? Which is why SpaceRock Music Festival should offer something different to the gig-going audience. Scheduled to take place at One Café in the middle of town, SpaceRock is described on their MySpace as a combination of ambient, post-rock, experimental, shoegaze and indie all on one stage. Organized by Eastern Glory Music, SpaceRock’s line-up consists of bands already established as well as emerging ones who are gaining popularity within the indie scene.Headliner of the festival is undoubtedly Sarawak’s NiceStupidPlayground simply because it’s not every week we get to see Charles Rossem, John Boniface, Abdul Aziz, Wenelfie and Bendy Ismardy perform. It’s been years since the “Bedroom Window” era, but NSP still remains one of the most-loved bands around. Their last album release was A Beautiful Life in 2005 and the band has remained relatively quiet since then. All the more reason why their SpaceRock set is must-watch. Also, there’s Subang Jaya’s own Telebury. With a name birthed from the combination of the Telecaster electric guitar and Glastonbury music festival, the band Brit-inspired sound is very melodic with dreamy atmospherics to get lost into. The song, “The Stars Belong To Us” will be featured in the anticipated Kami: The Movie. For post-rock fans, Citizens of Ice Cream won’t disappoint. With a well-received EP out (The End) and a reputation for great live performances, we suspect that the crowd will love the melodic highs and lows of post-rock that the Citizens will deliver. Also look out for the rock and roll antics of The Borjuis from Jitra, the electronica sounds of Teenage Glory for the Wasted and the pogo-worthy Myra!
