Grants for Grab 08 recipients
This just in.
Grants for Grab, the initiative spearheaded by Central Market and Annexe Gallery has found this year's winners. The RM50,000 donated from Fashion Inc will be divided between this year's 7 lucky recipients. Picked by a panel of judges which consisted of Datin Marion D' Cruz, Jerald Joseph, Yee I-Lann, Nani Kahar and Kow Shih-Li, the 7 recipients were chosen based on their "focus on community arts exchange, sharing of knowledge and skills and promoting of the arts and social awareness".
Without further ado, the chosen 7 are:
Simon Soon for his proposal Picnic At Sungai Chilling Falls ("one day excursion to Kuala Kubu Baru to foster a free form social discourse between the participants in a natural environment")
Rumah Air Panas for their proposal Contemporary Art In School ("project that uses SM Stella Maris school compound as a space for artists to engage with students through their works")
Mark Teh for his proposal EMERGENCY: Sebuah Darurat Dua Minggu ("a two-week multi-arts event to investigate and reflect upon the incidents of the Malayan Emergency sixty years on")
Elaine Pedley for her poposal Dance and Drama Facilitation in Selayang Community ("a four-month series of workshops in dance and performance with children from the Selayang area")
1948 Artspace for their proposal Entry Points ("a long term multidisciplinary community arts project that will be based in the Seri Kembangan area")
Sabrina Arokiam for her proposal Stories from the Heart, by Kids for Kids ("arts workshop working with children of Burmese refugee communities to get them to share their experiences with the larger community")
Chang Yoong Chia for his proposal Stories from Vanishing Towns ("series of community art workshops working with residents of Sg Lembing and Papan to collect stories about towns's tin mining histories")
A big congrats to all seven! Can't wait to see these proposals realized.
