No Limits

Imagine Dune’s Paul Atreides breaking into a Spice Girls song, or perhaps a Star Wars Darth Vader massacre dance repertoire. Science fiction is obviously not normally the stuff or material for making musicals. However, No Limits hopes to break away from that, in hopes that a genre that is usually denoted as cold and emotionless amidst scientific reasoning can be explored into a musical take. Though Penny Low, development manager admits while breaking the perception of the otherwise polar opposite genres is rather difficult, they are nonetheless seamlessly fused.

Directed by Susan Lankester and writen by Yim Mei Choo, No Limits is set to stage another local benchmark for the unusual hybrid. No Limits centers around two worlds after the accidental release of an electromagnetic charge from the earth’s core that instantanously wiped everyone’s memory. Moon (Mary George), the only survivor, albeit senile, decides to return the past through the collection of evidence. However, Moon’s right hand man, Kingsley (KK Wong) begs to differ, hoping to start anew instead of reinjecting years of hardship, misery, heartbreak and dissapointment.

The musical thus touches the heart of the human soul. Very Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind-esque, it questions the value of memories. If given the choice, would memories be important, or would it be easier to wipe them out? No Limits features KK Wong, Joanna Bessey, Mary George, Gloria Ting, Malik Taufiq, Bella Rahim, Kuah Jenhan and Eason Tang.
