Have your fill at Istana Bambu, the restaurant built out of bamboo!

If you're sick of the usual eateries that you dine at, then head over to Istana Bambu, the newly opened restaurant off Jalan Hulu Kelang-Ampang. Istana Bambu, with its interior and structure made almost entirely out of bamboo, serves up Chinese and Malay food.

Built on an empty plot of land with Ukay Heights as the backdrop, Istana Bambu is literally a bamboo palace, with thick bamboo pillars, bamboo tables, chairs, chandelier, gazebos, and more! One of the only restaurants in KL with a paddy field concept, Istana Bambu greets you with a fish pond surrounding a nice long walkway towards the main dining area.

Behind the dining room, there are gazebos if you like to dine outdoors. Here, you can enjoy the breeze and sit cross-legged while enjoying your meal and chatting with your friends and family. There's a certain nostalgic feel to the whole place, thanks to the ambience coupled with the food that tastes just like grandma's.

Istana Bambu prides itself in serving fresh, live seafood, and many of their dishes are cooked Chinese-style. Butter prawns, Teo-chew Style Steamed Fish, Crab with Salted Egg, and Sizzling Prawn Ball are just a few. If you're looking for Malay fare, then try their Masak Lemak Daging Salai, Asam Pedas, Sup Tulang, or Ikan Siakap Tiga Rasa. One recommended dish is the Salted Egg with Squid, that's best eaten while still hot.

Make your way to Istana Bambu for a real treat! With the scenic background (plus what's left of Highland Towers), the visit to this bamboo restaurant is one to remember.

Istana Bambu is located at 841, Jalan Hulu Kelang-Ampang, 68000 Ampang, Selangor. Call them at 03-4251 4717, and visit their website at www.istanabambu.com.my for a map/directions on how to get there.
