Space

Review | Posted on 02 June 2008 by julian

The Asian Heritage Row we know and love today reflects the perfectly balanced negotiation between our local modern era and its humble beginnings. While distinctively Malaysian and culturally potent in architecture, it is at the same time, up to date, in vogue, unmistakably cosmopolitan and the official refuge sought by clubbing elites. The good news is Heritage Row has recently just conceived. The latest installment to the family comes in the shape of Space, dwarfed between the cream of the clubbing crop, Cynna and Loft; perhaps a location somewhat daunting for a brand new establishment of skeptically ignorant caliber.

The interior decoration was mediocre to say the least. Though name fittingly appropriate, its very minimal clean cuts of modern and contemporary concrete with silver cushion finishing amidst symmetrical and rigid fittings seem to hark back to the current cliched connotations of modernity. However, amidst the vibrant LED light fittings and visual effects by Robe Intelligent Lighting, the strobe creates an atmosphere that is lively and pulsating. Experience the new age clubbing experience for Trekkies – hip and stylishly modern. The Dancefloor Odyssey is a space that is future exuberant, blurring the present that seems like the past of the KL clubbing scene.

The music roster is fairly impressive. Catch Joey G open every Wednesday with his funky electro house, an update of DJ Gabriel’s uplifting tech house. Thursday nights For Him, gives guys the special treatment for a change, without cover charge and some groovy and tribal music from DJ Bobby B. Fridays and Saturdays feature Glyn Tandy, Nutek and Gregoire Pagnoux with minimal techno and progressive sound. Jive to their specialized cocktails, Lost in Space, a psychedelic concoction of gin, vodka, rum, triple sec, sweet and sour, beer, orange juice and Pepsi and their Test Tube Extravaganza, offering 24 vodka base shooters in various flavours from the fruity to the creamy. Let’s all go back to the future!
