Society is ruled by lines. Metaphorically speaking, there’s always a need to keep within your lines, to not break the rules or move out of your comfort zone for fear of the unknown.
Keeping this idea in mind, the upcoming exhibition Out Of Line: Doodles & Dreamscapes, which will be held at The Annexe, Central Market will prove to be an eye-opener for those looking to step out of their boxes. This exhibition will consist of only drawings, which in turn will be made of only lines. Pang Khee Teik, the arts programme director at The Annexe, says that the motivation behind using only lines was to show how a simple visual like that can be turned into a unique expression of the artist.
And speaking of artistes, the participating artistes in this exhibition are worth the visit to the gallery alone. There’s Munkao, whose sense of humour is always apparent in his work, and Chang Yoong Chia whose artwork is loved for its surreal nature and incredible details. Also exhibiting is up-and-coming Shahril Nizam. His quirky illustrations are just everywhere these days, from books to CD covers – this is your chance to see more. The artist line-up also includes writer Saharil Hasrin Sanin, Cheeway, They, Avroco, Daniel Chong, Jerome Kugan, K Soon, Melissa Lin, Tey Beng Tze, Why, Wong Eng Leong and Pang himself. Circle in this “exhibition of unconstrained drawings” in your calendar now.
