Placebo live in KL Preview

Tuesday, 02/03/10 - 10:47AM Filed in Music by yangching | Views: 2830 | Comments: 0

At long last, one of London's more established alternative rock/post-punk bands, Placebo, will be in KL to rock you out good this month. Formed in 1994 at the height of the Britpop era, Placebo have prevailed where other bands from that era have faltered, amassing a loyal following of die-hard fans along the way.

Their music has been described as a glam version of Nirvana with a tinge of Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Sonic Youth, and the Pixies. Winners of Best Alternative at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2009, the band have released numerous studio albums, but the one that is said to have been the most successful - both commercially and critically - is their fourth effort, Sleeping With Ghosts, which was released in 2003.

The album entered the UK charts' Top Ten and sold 1.4 million copies worldwide. Their sixth and most recent studio album, Battle for the Sun, was released in June 2009 and was mixed by Alan Moulder, who has worked with My Bloody Valentine, Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails. Described as having a sound that is "hard pop", it was also the first to feature new drummer, Steve Forrest. Founders, the ever-enigmatic Brian Molko and school chum, Stefan Olsdal, make up the rest of the band as the lead vocalist/guitarist and bassist respectively.

Their performance in KL will be supported by performances from local acts, Twilight Action Girl (TAG), DJ Hackeem Hacker, and up-and-coming singing sensation, Ikwal. Tickets are available at Music Valley, Rock Corner, Extreme outlets and Axcess Tickets outlets as well as at the door on event day.
