Woods Bio Marche Review

Wednesday, 13/01/10 - 16:05PM Filed in Food by huishan | Views: 921 | Comments: 0

What does, Woods – Malaysia’s first macrobiotic, organic, vegan restaurant and mini market – have in store? Their heavy pictured menu comes with helpful side notes, like “Stamina”, “Detoxify” and “Relaxation” and, although the selection is not vast, it is varied enough with Japanese, Malaysian and fusion options.

Go for the soy burger, by no means a regular cheeseburger but still good. It does need some decent ketchup, something Woods does not have yet. If you’re one of the few who like that strange fermented soy and grain mixture dubbed Natto, you can try a bowl of their myriad-flavoured Macrobiotic Natto Brown Rice. Their Yaki Handmade Udon could have used some sambal. Which incidentally Woods’ has, but they charge an extra RM1 for it, since it’s actually not part of the Udon meal.

If ordering ala Carte doesn’t suit you, there are set meals available too, averaging at RM13 per set. The roasted grain tea is good and they have a full-bodied soy latte, as well. But if you want something more dramatic, order a “Power mix” – a banana, papaya fruit blend – or a bright purple “Dragon” fruit drink. And after your meal, you can do a little shopping too. It is a Marche (market) after all. On sale are a minor selection of cooking ingredients, vegan bread and even environmentally friendly shampoo. Woods is a tad pricey but then again what was that old adage? Health is wealth?

What do you wish you had more of as a child?
Pocket money! I used to get only 20sen back in school.
Respect from my parents. I am my own person!
I wish my parents listened to me, instead of keeping to the idea that "children should be seen and not heard"
Attention! My siblings took it away from me. Grrr!
Freedom. My parents never let me go out with my friends.
Brand new clothes, not hand-me-downs that were ill-fitting!
Maturity to impress and annoy the adults with.
Time! Everything happened so quickly and I miss those carefree days.
Toys, gadgets and the latest computer games, because we kids were competitive about things like that.
I certainly wish I heard less of the phrase, "When I was your age..."
