Introducing: Komplot
Posted on 06 May 2008 by sarahKomplot has been not-so-quietly leading the charge to change the music scene here in Malaysia with their brand of disco-punk music. Officially formed in 2006, Komplot’s unique sound is reflective of the various musical backgrounds of each band member. Zac (vocalist), Amrud (guitarist), Chino (drummer), Jeffny (saxophone) and new recruit, Haikal (bassist) all come from different bands with musical genres like rock, metal and hardcore.
Their influences range from bands like Led Zeppelin, Mars Volta and At The Drive-In to P Ramlee. Interestingly, they also cite 60’s and 70’s Malay film soundtracks and Malay icons as their main influence. Vocalist, Zac explains “Legends from back then like Dato’ Jins Samsudin and Jefri Zain [from the ‘60s Gerak Kilat] had a lot of attitude. A lot mainstream music today has lost that attitude.”
Komplot has been quite vocal about their frustrations with the mainstream music scene that they say has become “boring” and are adamant on bringing back artistic value and freedom to local music. Komplot have had their fair share of criticism; mostly to do with their substandard live performances. Zac defends it by saying, “It’s all about being honest and exuding the right attitude. What’s the point in performing live if you’re going to use autotune?” The band will be releasing their debut EP, tentatively titled Disko Tanpa Risiko, this month. rempits? are you stupid? what else do u want? i agree with julia,those who thinks KOMPLOT is nothing are just jealous with what they had achieved so far...ive been to nearly all their shows and they never dissapoint me...i dont think theres any other bands like them..they are PASSIONATE and RESPECT their own music...thats what they are...any other bands in malaysia whos proud of theirs local heroes? i dont think so....KOMPLOT is the band who respect malaysians...KUDOS KOMPLOT!!!
