Are You On The Guestlist?

Posted on 05 May 2008 by sarah

KL being so small, KL-ites are in constant shrew-like demand for excitement, lest we exhaust ourselves from boredom. But exactly because it’s small, KL’s hardcore party scenesters have come to realise our numbers are just too small to warrant mega bashes. Thus: private parties! At small venues. Mostly themed. With unpredictable music selections. And exclusive invite-only door policies. At any rate, a breath of fresh. Obviously, organisers of these private parties don’t announce too far in advance, otherwise the whole private party tag won’t mean much.

Vice Modern Disco

VMD is a bi-monthly event. But don’t be alarmed if there’s no definite word yet. Most probably the party will start in early 2008. Theme nights are huge in KL, and this is likely to run wild. Expect underground chic at its most lurid at VMD, which will be traveling around KL to different venues to satisfy those craving for hardcore electro to old school hip hop. Prefabbed for cult following, definitely.

Find Me A Date By Friday

What started as a Facebook group joke turned out to be an accidental success with the recruitment of 135 members within 24 hours of its founding. FMADBF is about making new friends, connecting with new people and forming lasting, meaningful relationships. Snigger. So far, the Friday event, with occassional mid-week meet ups from time to time, has been held at La Bodega Lounge and The Attic KL. More are planned for this year. Developments of a website and a FMADBF card that will allow members to gain discounts and freebies from selected outlets in KL are set to make FMADBF a legit party phenomenon.

Brainchild of the infamous illKiDD and Thai rock band Futon lead singer Gene Futon, WhateverKL is an alternative version of Zouk’s famed Mambo Jambo nights, to feature an eclectic mix of music. Expect to hear cheesy hits and unheard tracks, which explains the “whatever”. Nothing wrong with having another mindless theme night to dance, drink and be merry! Look out for it to kick off in mid-2008!

Twilight Gypsy

This gets very exclusive with a maximum guestlist as small as 20. The focus of Twilight Gypsy group is the introduction of new food, dishes and cooking skills. It’s a culinary group where people will be able to gather to taste the offerings of individual chefs at private residences. This is a very new event and nothing has been confirmed yet, but surely an interesting noteworthy for food lovers in 2008.

cool feature! is vice modern disco an offshoot of the disgustingly ironic magazine?
