Here's today's noteworthy news items:

  • The government is rejecting the return of former Malayan Communist Party (MCP) secretary-general Chin Peng to Malaysia. The 85-year-old had offered an apology and wants to return to his homewtown in Sitiawan, Perak, where he wished to be his final resting place. [The Star]
  • LIMA '09: Free daily entry to maritime show! LIMA '09 will run in Langkawi from 1 - 5 December. [NST Online]
  • FOX network has announced the return of American Idol! Season 9 will kick off with a two-night premiere on Jan 12 and 13. [Straits Times]
  • More things to expect from Iskandar: daily cultural dance performances and local cuisine in Danga Bay; interpretative boards; pedestrian crossings; brochures; and a world class premium factory outlet centre. [The Star, NST Online]
  • Is Pulp Fiction writer, Roger Avary, tweeting prison horrors? While it's true he is serving a one-year sentence, no one can confirm @avary actually belongs to Roger. [Los Angeles Times]
  • Kiss-and-tell book spills the detailed account of the night Patrizia D'Addario claims to have spent with Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi. In her book, Patrizia was taken aback by the prime minister's stamina. [Telegraph.co.uk]

What will you be looking forward to most this Chinese New Year?
The angpaus! I can smell the crisp notes already.
The home-cooked food back home! Mmm, pork dishes galore.
The cooking and preparations. Can't leave all the work to ah ma, you know!
Baking cookies, and then gobbling them down when the bubblies are served.
Sit down dinners with the whole family to share stories.
Meeting up with friends to drink, drink, drink till the sun comes up.
The clear roads in the city! Wheee!
The lion dance shows, especially when they prance around on those poles.
The customary activities we partake in when the festivities roll by.
Darn, my Valentine's Day plans are ruined!
