Agefuku Review

Monday, 23/11/09 - 20:42PM Filed in Food by sarah | Views: 2074 | Comments: 0

Agefuku serves Japanese fast food on the ground floor of their establishment and fine dining, replete with a sake and shochu bar, on the first floor. Not only could you savour classy sashimi, you could also chow down on a Katsu Sandwich (RM8) from the fast food kitchen below. Common in Japan, the sandwich consists of a juicy pork steak, breaded and deep-fried, served between bread slices with a sweet mustardy sauce.

The quality of fried delights extended to the Kaki Furai (RM28), an excellent example of breaded deep-fried oysters. It could all be down to the Clean Water Fryer Technology, which they inform customers, is the first in Malaysia.

However, the establishment fell short with their sushi. The glaringly bright Agefuku Maki (RM25) was a multi-coloured mess, with sushi rice that was far too soft and stodgy. The Una Maki (RM18) fared much better, if only for the reason that it was a sushi roll made without rice. Instead it was grilled eel rolled up in a soft, fluffy omelette.

For great value, go for the Buffet Lunch (RM43), available on weekends. Top picks were the potato salad and a half-tomato gratin stuffed with tuna mayonnaise from the starter buffet. The dessert buffet was also wonderful with a selection of local nyonya cakes, ice cream and even ice kacang. They also have very reasonably priced shochus with the recommended Honbo Ishi No Kurakara (RM45) being very good value for an entire bottle.

What do you wish you had more of as a child?
Pocket money! I used to get only 20sen back in school.
Respect from my parents. I am my own person!
I wish my parents listened to me, instead of keeping to the idea that "children should be seen and not heard"
Attention! My siblings took it away from me. Grrr!
Freedom. My parents never let me go out with my friends.
Brand new clothes, not hand-me-downs that were ill-fitting!
Maturity to impress and annoy the adults with.
Time! Everything happened so quickly and I miss those carefree days.
Toys, gadgets and the latest computer games, because we kids were competitive about things like that.
I certainly wish I heard less of the phrase, "When I was your age..."
