Pakatan Rakyat becomes official?; China puts weapons in space?; Lunatics sell moon land

It's a bright, sunny hump day. (Sometimes we wish things weren't so bright in the morning. Ugh.) What do the news feeds have in store for us today?

  • OMG, it's finally happened: The PKR-DAP-PAS alliance has applied to the Registrar of Societies to formalise the Pakatan Rakyat coalition. "A logo bearing a 'rising sun' was also tendered — signalling a 'new dawn' for the country" -- and apparently there's a good chance of the typically recalcitrant RoS might authorise this! [Malaysian Insider]
  • Creeping Chinese military superiority: General Xu Qiliang, head of the People’s Liberation Army Air Force, has declared China’s plans to put weapons in space. [Malaysian Insider]
  • Creeping cross-culturalism: Oxford Circus, the heart of London's West End shopping and entertaiment district, gets a Shibuya-style scramble-crossing makeover. [Straits Times]
  • As long as we are talking about Japan -- an article about the mores and significance of that patriarchy's rising number of "herbivorous men". [Times Online]
  • Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons' Def Jam Records turned 25 this year! An article about its abiding significance. [CNN]
  • Rampart lunacy: the Lunar Registry sells "land claims" to lunar property (name your own crater; buy moon land at USD18.95/acre). Proceeds go to funding private lunar settlement, apparently. "All lunar real estate documents are professionally designed, elegantly printed and make a great conversation piece". [Lunar Registry]
  • Swedish bad-taste doyen Ann Sofie Back opens a "hostage store", just a wee bit away from the site of the Norrmalstorg robbery (which gave Stockholm Syndrome its name). Apparently, the fail-themed stall is doing well. [The Moment]

What will you be looking forward to most this Chinese New Year?
The angpaus! I can smell the crisp notes already.
The home-cooked food back home! Mmm, pork dishes galore.
The cooking and preparations. Can't leave all the work to ah ma, you know!
Baking cookies, and then gobbling them down when the bubblies are served.
Sit down dinners with the whole family to share stories.
Meeting up with friends to drink, drink, drink till the sun comes up.
The clear roads in the city! Wheee!
The lion dance shows, especially when they prance around on those poles.
The customary activities we partake in when the festivities roll by.
Darn, my Valentine's Day plans are ruined!
