EUPHORIA presents Matt Darey Preview

Sunday, 01/11/09 - 21:50PM Filed in Nightlife by sarah | Views: 1844 | Comments: 0

When someone can be cited by www.thedjlist.com to be an influence to megastar DJs like Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Armin and Paul van Dyk, you know you’re dealing with a talented maverick.

Matt Darey is considered by many as one of trance’s pioneers. He got his start in the industry in 1994 with the release of “Li Kwan – Point Zero”, thought by the critics to be one of the first major trance records. It brought Darey massive exposure and earned him big-name fans: Pete Tong made it his essential new tune twice, while Paul Oakenfold listed it as one of his top five records of all time.

In a career that spans close to 20 years, he has made a name for himself when it comes to producing and writing house, trance, breaks and progressive music. With over 2 million albums sold and top 10 hits worldwide, you can bet he’s good at what he does. He also has his own label, Darey Products, and also jumpstarted Nocturnal, a radio show that is described as “the world’s fasted expanding milti-genre dance radio show” with a worldwide broadcast on 125 FM radio stations!

Darey’s taken Nocturnal far, with the award-winning Nocturnal Podcast and Nocturnal Sunshine that features new dance music available via free downloads from his website (www.mattdarey.com). Darey is a nominee for Best Radio Mix Show DJ at the 2009 International Dance Music Awards. Be sure to catch this pioneer DJ when he makes an anticipated stop at EUPHORIA this month.

What do you wish you had more of as a child?
Pocket money! I used to get only 20sen back in school.
Respect from my parents. I am my own person!
I wish my parents listened to me, instead of keeping to the idea that "children should be seen and not heard"
Attention! My siblings took it away from me. Grrr!
Freedom. My parents never let me go out with my friends.
Brand new clothes, not hand-me-downs that were ill-fitting!
Maturity to impress and annoy the adults with.
Time! Everything happened so quickly and I miss those carefree days.
Toys, gadgets and the latest computer games, because we kids were competitive about things like that.
I certainly wish I heard less of the phrase, "When I was your age..."
