Wacky Bar Preview

Thursday, 01/10/09 - 20:40PM Filed in The Arts by sarah | Views: 2729 | Comments: 0

When local theatre company Dramalab celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2006, its ten-day Season of Origins and Originals featured new works by Malaysian authors, including the reading of Maya Tan Abdullah’s first play, Wacky Bar.

This October, Wacky Bar will be mounted by PJ Live Arts (PJLA), Assunta Hospital, Asia Assistance and Jaya One. The comedic play centres on the oddball characters at the bar, including the host, Wacky himself. And a night out at Wacky Bar isn’t one short of drama! From a classy but promiscuous Puan Sri to an attention-seeking girlfriend, you’ll never know what you will encounter at the bar.

Directed by Joanna Bessey, Wacky Bar boasts a stellar line-up, including Patrick Teoh, Joanne Kam Poh Poh, Gavin Yap, Rashid Salleh, Ida Mariana, Elaine Pedley, Na’a Murad, Junji Gomes, Shahrezda Minhat, Megat Shahrizal, Shamaine Othman, Maya Tan Abdullah, Daphne Iking and Amber Chia. Since Wacky Bar is a production that will channel all of its ticket sales towards cancer victims under Assunta Hospital’s Cervical & Breast Cancer Community Treatment, we highly suggest you put your duit raya to good use and catch this theatre treat!

KLue readers get 10% off admission from PJLA Theatre Box Office by flashing a copy of the October issue. Log on to www.pjla.com.my for more info.
