Speedzone presents Paul van Dyk Preview

Thursday, 01/10/09 - 20:28PM Filed in Nightlife by sarah | Views: 1999 | Comments: 2

Face it. If you're a seasoned clubber, you won't need much convincing to hit up this party. It's going to be helmed by Paul van Dyk at the decks, and rarely does he fail to move the crowd.

The highly decorated DJ – he's won over 30 awards and consistently finishes in the top ten of any reliable DJ list – has been building a reputation for himself as a bona fide deck wizard since he was in his teens (he is 38 this year). What keeps him a constant favourite is the connection he makes with the crowd whenever he spins.

This has been a personal philosophy from even before he began spinning. Speaking in an interview published on DJ Mag, he says: “As I began my career as a DJ, I discovered that there is a really deep communication between DJ and people. I learned to observe the different vibrations, learned how to move the crowd and how to create atmosphere because while spinning, an interaction takes place between the people and me. I never come into a club and spin just a ready set. It is also a very new experience for me every time and nobody knows in advance how it will end.” Paul has nourished that belief to its full potential and will reap the seeds of his hard work for years to come. See how the man keeps it fresh at Speedzone presents Paul van Dyk this October.

What do you wish you had more of as a child?
Pocket money! I used to get only 20sen back in school.
Respect from my parents. I am my own person!
I wish my parents listened to me, instead of keeping to the idea that "children should be seen and not heard"
Attention! My siblings took it away from me. Grrr!
Freedom. My parents never let me go out with my friends.
Brand new clothes, not hand-me-downs that were ill-fitting!
Maturity to impress and annoy the adults with.
Time! Everything happened so quickly and I miss those carefree days.
Toys, gadgets and the latest computer games, because we kids were competitive about things like that.
I certainly wish I heard less of the phrase, "When I was your age..."
