Jennifer's Body Review

Thursday, 01/10/09 - 20:07PM Filed in Film by sarah | Views: 2291 | Comments: 0

Jennifer’s Body has an (kind of) all-star cast, suitable soundtrack, comedy, horror, and an easy story line that could have progressed so well, but they just dropped the ball. It’s like a waiter tripping over and all the food he was about to serve crashes all over the floor. OK, let me elaborate.

Firstly the plot: juggling comedy and horror isn’t so hard. Just look at old Chinese horror comedies, that was relatively watchable, and that was on a budget of Chinese tea and 3 badgers. Jennifer’s Body manages to jarringly switch between the two like eating hi-sour after teh tarik. Sometimes, that alone was laughable (maybe that was the comedy).

Secondly, the acting: it’s hard to play subtle roles, so the actors decided to play stereotypes; you got your high school chick, the jocks, the rockers, the nerds and the oddball teacher; enough said. Thirdly, the feel you get from the movie. As you know, the people involved in this were the same guys from Juno, so at times it feels like Juno. And then suddenly, you get black puke. Weird? Yes. Having said that, it’s kind of a no brainer movie to just sit and zone out. Besides, you got Megan Fox as eye candy for the guys, and Mr. Brody for the girls. So, everyone’s happy. The one part I was kind of thinking, “That’s quite cool...” is the part where Jennifer becomes the she-devil. I’m not discouraging you to see it for yourself, but just letting you know what you’re getting yourself into. Maybe you’ll enjoy it more than I did.

Cast Adam Brody, Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Simmons, Megan Fox Director Karyn Kusama Runtime 103 mins Opens 29 October
