John Digweed & Carl Cox Preview

Tuesday, 01/09/09 - 19:03PM Filed in Nightlife by sarah | Views: 1719 | Comments: 0

The tail-end of September is going to be huge for clubbers! After one month of quiet, Zouk will bring it on with guns blazing! Scheduled to spin for Zouk’s Global series are none other than superstar DJs John Digweed and Carl Cox – they’ll be here barely one day apart from each other. This means, dear readers, you’ll get to clock up on your party hours soon.

John Digweed has been among the top 10 of the DJ Mag Top 100 poll for 10 consecutive years – a testament to his ability to always keep the music fresh for new and experienced clubbers alike. With his Bedrock label (co-founded with Nick Muir), Digweed has been partly responsible for the success of acts like Astro & Glyde, Steve Lawler and Shmuel Flash. His radio show Transitions on Kiss FM and online is also as popular as ever.

Like Digweed, Carl Cox knows how to keep it relevant, although he’s been in the business since he was in his teens. The man just turned 47! The first person to top the Top 100 poll when it was introduced in 1997, Cox attributes his staying power to his personal philosophy of “playing music, breaking tunes, spreading love and celebrating life”. With his radio show Global recording close to 4 million listeners, it seems that Cox is sticking fiercely to his adage. Cover charges for both events are yet to be announced so surf on to Zouk’s website to get the updated info.

Date 23 September (Digweed), 25 September (Cox), 10pm

What do you wish you had more of as a child?
Pocket money! I used to get only 20sen back in school.
Respect from my parents. I am my own person!
I wish my parents listened to me, instead of keeping to the idea that "children should be seen and not heard"
Attention! My siblings took it away from me. Grrr!
Freedom. My parents never let me go out with my friends.
Brand new clothes, not hand-me-downs that were ill-fitting!
Maturity to impress and annoy the adults with.
Time! Everything happened so quickly and I miss those carefree days.
Toys, gadgets and the latest computer games, because we kids were competitive about things like that.
I certainly wish I heard less of the phrase, "When I was your age..."
