Ghetto Heaven presents DJ Kayper

Preview | Posted on 24 April 2008 by julian

A pioneer in the London spinning scene, DJ Kayper showed that women deserve to not just stand behind the decks to watch their DJ boyfriends in action, but actually be the one who’s masterminding the groove! Kayper began DJing at the age of 12, and soon mastered the art of turntablism and merge beat juggling and scratch techniques with prime time club DJ sets, earning her a reputation as one of the UK's best kept secrets. With hours of turntable practice in the bank, Kayper has managed to develop a unique sound and with it, an unmatched level of versatility to date. Her individuality resonates in her blend of classic and current Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggae/Dancehall, ‘80s and soul with notes of Bhangra and Bollywood. "I've always been a person that needed to set trends rather then follow them; combining my roots with my passion for hip hop and turntablism has allowed me to stand out from most DJs in the game today," she explains.

While being a female DJ, let alone one of South Asian descent, Kayper has been received tremendously, and display her ethnicity and culture with fiery pride. She currently hosts a radio show on the BBC Asian Network called The Hype Show, which highlights the connoisseurs of Urban and Desi music; the roots of her turntablist culture. Her keen sense of crowd control and music choices have made her the most sought after DJ by club promoters in London, Birmingham, Leicester, Manchester and other major cities in the UK, leading her to rock crowds globally in Switzerland, Greece, Ibiza, Mauritius, Dubai, Austria, New York and India. Your ticket to a world class DJ resides in her first-ever appearance in Zouk KL on 15 May, so mark your calendars!
