Zee Avi's "Kantoi" lyrics translated

Gotten your hands on Zee Avi's self-titled debut yet? It was out aeons ago people (well okay, 19 May).  The 12-track album is filled with light, simple melodies that serve as a platform for her darker, more melancholic lyrics. One of the tracks is the Manglish delight, "Kantoi" - we first heard it live when she performed it at U.O.X Play Block Party at CapSquare!

"Kantoi" as most Malaysians know, is a term used when you catch someone in the act of something not-so-good (or simply, "busted!"). The song tells a pretty amusing story about a cheating boyfriend but we're more tickled by the fact that CNN picked it up ... Manglish appearing legitimately on a big media outlet? Sweet!

As familiar as her lyrics are to us Malaysians, the rest of the world might be scratching their heads over it. Well check out this video on YouTube which translated the lyrics to "Kantoi" for you.

What will you be looking forward to most this Chinese New Year?
The angpaus! I can smell the crisp notes already.
The home-cooked food back home! Mmm, pork dishes galore.
The cooking and preparations. Can't leave all the work to ah ma, you know!
Baking cookies, and then gobbling them down when the bubblies are served.
Sit down dinners with the whole family to share stories.
Meeting up with friends to drink, drink, drink till the sun comes up.
The clear roads in the city! Wheee!
The lion dance shows, especially when they prance around on those poles.
The customary activities we partake in when the festivities roll by.
Darn, my Valentine's Day plans are ruined!
