Chain Reaction
From the sunny beaches of the Gold Coast, Australia comes one of its more popular DJ acts—The Surecut Kids. Describing themselves as “a walking house party,” members Junior Kid and Kid Kaos definitely look like tons of fun. In photographs they are constantly caught in hilarious get-ups. They've posed as Mario and Luigi, drawn fake mustaches and eyebrows on each other, and balanced on their heads in chicken and ape costumes. The goof factor is high with The Surecut Kids and it's their sense of humour that gives them that extra party edge.
Don't be quick to dismiss the Kids because when it comes to the music, it's all hard work and serious effort. Honorary members of The Surecut Kids are their four turntables and an MPC—also know as the Midi Production Center, a mobile electronic musical instrument popular with hip-hop producers for its use as a drum machine. By scratching, layering and remixing off the cuff, the Kids go through a variety of genres in a set—don't be surprised to hear a groovy, old-school R&B jam under Ludacris's “Stand Up,” to give way to Kanye's “Stronger” the next minute. Or if they feel like it, a touch of swing music, Miami bass, ghetto tech, disco or dancehall. Anything goes with these crazy kids!
They've amped up festivals like Parklife 2008 and Summafieldayze, billed with Armin van Buuren, Calvin Harris, Digitalism, Boys Noize, Justice, Diplo, Bloc Party, Chemical Brothers and more. But whether it's a major summer festival or an intimate house party, The Surecut Kids promises a party you'll remember the next day… despite the hangover.
