Fuze presents Gareth Pugh and Matthew Stone
In a month where parties are in abundance, you may wonder why KLue chose this one to write about. We thought it’d be obvious. It’s Gareth freaking Pugh, people. How often do we get one our generation’s most mind-boggling and intriguing fashion designers in this part of the world? Mr. Pugh will be traveling down with friend, DJ and artist Matthew Stone for a party where avant-garde fashion meets art and music for something unlike anything we’ve ever experienced.
Mr. Pugh is a graduate of London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design with a degree in Fashion Design. He quickly became the toast of the world’s fashion elite. His designs were not just clothes, they were creations of art that were jaw-dropping to look at. But more often than not, impractical to wear. Unless of course you are electropop singer Roisin Murphy, who has the irreverence, talent and beauty to carry off Pugh's works—he’s her favourite designer, of course! Other stars who have worn Pugh’s incredibly structured and forward-thinking designs include Kylie Minogue and Beyonce.
Pugh and Stone are part of the !WOWOW! collective. It’s a group of artists, from writers, musicians and designers infamous for organising and promoting parties and arts events in London and Berlin. The collective owes its history to a Victorian co-op that they all squatted in. They turned it into an arts space in the day and an alternative party venue by night where it acquired a reputation for wild parties. When Pugh and Stone get to Zouk Club KL, you can expect Stone to spin a set that’s a little bit pop, a little bit disco, some techno, some electro and smatterings of old-skool. Check out www.myspace.com/matthewwowow for a teaser. It promises to be “a night of some of the best underground dance music cuts from some of London’s most talked-about hipsters.” We’re coming expecting that!
