Have Heart
What awesome times for those who love their music loud, raw and in yer face. Australian metalcore heroes Parkway Drive touched down for performance in February. A month later, Misery Signals graced us with their hot, sweaty presence. Both times at MCPA Theatre, fast gaining a reputation as the place to go for a gig that leaves you breathless.
Have Heart is a straight-edge hardcore punk band from Boston, Massachusetts. The band comprises of Patrick Flynn (vocals), Ryan Hudon (guitar), Key Yasui (guitar), Ryan Briggs (bass) and Shawn Costa (drums). Have Heart started out as a side project before the band realised they had something pretty special going on. Born in 2002, Have Heart is now a big player in the hardcore scene, with two well-received full-length albums out. Their most recent release, 2008’s Songs To Scream At The Sun it was slow and dark, marking a slight departure from their first release The Things We Carry. Nonetheless, fans lapped it up. They’ve also got a crazy tour schedule that has taken them all across the world. Prior to their gig in Kuala Lumpur, the band played Chicago, Beijing, Hong Kong, Philippines, Bangkok and Jakarta amongst many other cities.
With invaluable touring experience like theirs, it’s no surprise that Have Heart shines and growls the hardest live. Their live shows have been lauded for the passion that the members pour into a performance. In a blog entry posted on their MySpace, frontman Patrick Flynn sums up their philosophy: “A staple idea for us has and always will be to go for broke and work hard at everything we do, whether it be writing music or playing it. I think we've found some success sticking to that ideal and we are very grateful for everything we have ever achieved and all the people who have helped and supported us along the way.” You heard the man. Now get out there, buy your tickets and we’ll see you on the floor.
