Centro Review

Situated right across the street from the KL Sentral MAS check-in terminal entrance, restaurant/bar/club lounge Centro definitely wins points for its central location. It’s right there. You can’t miss its al fresco dining exterior. Inside, it wins more points for its mix of velvet and dark wood vibe, which makes it oh so cosy. The couches are especially comfortable. Bonus points also go to Centro for it being cheaper and more relaxed than the more chi chi dining and drinking outlets in KL Hilton and Le Meridien.

During the day, Centro is mostly frequented by diners. So far it’s been receiving excellent response from the corporate crowd working in the area, not to mention an alternative for those wanting to avoid the Bangsar lunch crowd. It’s reasonable for anyone who has KFC and McDonald’s in mind, as Centro’s lunch set price is the same as the fast food sets you have.

At night, Centro turns into a watering hole for drinking peeps, which is awesome because who wants to bother with the jam when they can have a drink with colleagues and friends? Plasma screens make for an especial attraction for football fans. The theme nights include very female-friendly promotions. On Wednesday Nights, a free bottle of vodka greets any group of five ladies. On Thursday, free drinks all night long for ladies.

What makes this place even more awesome is that the kitchen opens until 3am! Possibly one of the best ideas from a club, as people get the munchies at around 1am. Forget the typical afterhours mamak sessions. Stay on after the partying and eat. You can get dim sum to Western fare to ease your post-party cravings.

In the future, Centro plans to organise live jazz and acoustic performances, especially after it’s finished installing a better sound system. And by the time you get to read this, there will be a wide range of wine imports available on the drinks menu. Centro may even extend its kitchen hours by opening up tables outdoor after clubbing hours, allowing patrons and anyone to dine in the fresh air. Ahh. KL people sure love their food any time, especially after getting high on fun. The only thing that could improve this is having the trains run till 5am.
