For the love of Sandwiches
Posted on 08 April 2008 by julianLong long ago before McDonalds came up with Big Macs, humans all around the world discovered something easy to make and scrumptious too - sandwiches. Named after an 18th-century English aristocrat, the Earl of Sandwich, sandwiches have evolved culturally across borders and it comes in different varieties and sizes. Making sandwiches require no fancy kung-fu cabbage-chopping skills, it is easy and simple, people can just get one anywhere on the go. That is how mobile sandwiches are these days, and the places selling them are becoming the next big thing.
So we asked around the people in the office, where is their "favourite-st" place to go for a sandwich, and these are what they shared:
Shermen (photographer) - "Pavilion's Mercato. Because they serve soup and sandwiches which is a good combination. It's cheap and nice."
One mysterious "intern" - "Providore in Mont' Kiara! Authentic Australian sandwiches."
Priya (writer) - "Nero Teca! Because they serve it hot and toasty and they have real Italian panini."
Adlin (editor for Junk) and Navin (marketing manager) - "Shangri-la's Lemon Garden2go because it is 50% off after 6pm and it looks posh. Also, every week it has a different set of sandwiches."
Valene (marketing executive) - "Marmalade. Because they use their homemade bread with different ingredients. They have like a fusion between Chinese, Indian and Western."
Sarah (events editor) and Adrian (editor-in-chief) - "The Loaf because it is huge and filling with interesting and exotic ingredients." Sarah added "But they recently changed the bread and hiked up the prices. So I fell out of love a little bit. "
These are a few of what the people behind the magazine shared, but we want to hear from you. So put it in the COMMENTS and tell us :
Where is your favourite place for a sandwich?

Subway, hands down - parmesan oregano bread :)
Subway!!...espcially the meatballs sandwich...and also chicken sandwich in Haad Rin Beach Koh Pha Ngan...the best chicken sandwich in the world....fresh...
Subway I concur. The chocolate cookies are to die for too. YUM.
steak sandwich at the shang!
(high five, adlin!)
like being sandwiched... it's nice especially when the buns are hot...
subway!
O'Brians Crambo Club rocks way more than Subways!
O'Briens! Their bacon is to die for.
that's not real bacon. it is some tough and chewy beef substitute.
o'briens crambo club wins hands down!!! ;)
subway! subway! subway!
O Briens! Corned beef man. yummat. or the steak sandwich at canteena, with a nice giant pint o guiness :)
crambo club at obriens has my vote too! the moroccan sandwich at food foundry is pretty good. and there are these huge sandwiches at tony roma's that are amazing.
or if all else fails i just make myself a rare roast beef sandwich with lotsa mustard.
JARROD AND RAWLINS!!!!!!
I always make my own sandwich there. Spicy jalapeno sausage, sundried tomatoes, lettuce, onions, dill mustard on wholewheat bread...AWESOME STUFF! It's my weakness, so I never turn it down, no matter how stuffed I am (such a pig right).
There's also this place called Specialty's in San Francisco where they serve gourmet sandwiches to corporates. Someone should bring it here. And Quiznos, which is a better version of Subway, fresher ingredients and served all toasty.
Okay enough... I think I gave more answers that I was supposed to ;P
J&R bacon & avocado sandwich. simple and to the point.
ok now i HAVE to try jarrod and rawlins's sandwich.
it's so nice to see comments in the box. thanks people. *sniff sniff*
La bodega - Ploughman's sandwich, cheddar+branston pickles. Yumm
All time can't go wrong sandwich (in my humble opinion) - Tuna & sweetcorn on rye (hold the butter). O'brien makes a pretty decent create your own one but my old sandwich joint in Birmingham, England (which had no name as it was a little tuck shop type set-up) used to serve it with sweet homemade bread which was devine.
oooohhhh Myer's foodcourt in Adelaide, south australia has this sandwich bar that had the most salivating salmon+cream cheese+capers+alfalfa sprouts sandwich ever!! It was fittingly called 'The devil's own'.
Jarrod & Rawlins win hands down. O'Brien's is good too but yeah, the bacon...not "real" =P
J&R wins.....why? Real bacon *drools
my vote's for J&R too! Real bacon, none of that turkey ham/beef bacon stuff for me. O'Brien's? Meh, had enough of it during Monday morning brekkies.
I vote for O'Brien's and Dome's sandwiches.
Healthy and worth the price.
Subway Club, with the Parmesan bread and lots of olive... OMG! I'm hungry. But whenever I'm in hurry, I always love to have Starbucks triple decker sandwich; especially when they're warmed.
daisy sandwicherie in uptown
just like O'Brien portion and all but HALF PRICE!
I used to love O'Brien's Triple Decker turkey ham sandwich until they switched the turkey to chicken instead. My current favourite would be the Grillled Pesto Chicken Sandwish at The Hot Spot, Menara Maxis (for tenants only though). So you KLue guys wanna try, let me know.
i like the occassional subway sandwiches but only for convenience. if had more time and due to freshness, Marmalade! O' Brien's is yummy, but ahhhh how much preserved bacon can one handle? yummy nevertheless.
damn, now i feel like sandwich. and 50% off sandwiches at lemon garden2go sounds good now.
the avocado chicken one at dome's good! :)
Subway, definitely.
what is hotspot??? my favs are Subway for quick bites, Marmalade for big healthy sandwiches and of course, my very own homemade meatball sandwiches courtesy of jamie oliver cookbooks! :p
yea Marmalade's fusion sandwiches like the teriyaki one is pretty unique.. for something non-halal its gotta be Fogals
I forgot to add MARMALADE's Mediterrannean sandwich
daisy's: this joint in uptown damansara that makes economical sandwiches. pretty mean.
o' briens' turkey ham n cheese on foccaciaaaaaaaaaaa!
No way man.. Subway isn't any good as O'Briens!!
SanTerri Cottage. Its in-house dressing is pretty tasty. Brad toasted crunchy too.
