For the love of Sandwiches

Tuesday, 08/04/08 - 16:59PM Filed in Food by julian | Views: 2612 | Comments: 37

Long long ago before McDonalds came up with Big Macs, humans all around the world discovered something easy to make and scrumptious too - sandwiches. Named after an 18th-century English aristocrat, the Earl of Sandwich, sandwiches have evolved culturally across borders and it comes in different varieties and sizes. Making sandwiches require no fancy kung-fu cabbage-chopping skills, it is easy and simple, people can just get one anywhere on the go. That is how mobile sandwiches are these days, and the places selling them are becoming the next big thing.

So we asked around the people in the office, where is their "favourite-st" place to go for a sandwich, and these are what they shared:

Shermen (photographer) - "Pavilion's Mercato. Because they serve soup and sandwiches which is a good combination. It's cheap and nice."

One mysterious "intern" - "Providore in Mont' Kiara! Authentic Australian sandwiches."

Priya (writer) - "Nero Teca! Because they serve it hot and toasty and they have real Italian panini."

Adlin (editor for Junk) and Navin (marketing manager) - "Shangri-la's Lemon Garden2go because it is 50% off after 6pm and it looks posh. Also, every week it has a different set of sandwiches."

Valene (marketing executive) - "Marmalade. Because they use their homemade bread with different ingredients. They have like a fusion between Chinese, Indian and Western."

Sarah (events editor) and Adrian (editor-in-chief) - "The Loaf because it is huge and filling with interesting and exotic ingredients." Sarah added "But they recently changed the bread and hiked up the prices. So I fell out of love a little bit. "

These are a few of what the people behind the magazine shared, but we want to hear from you. So put it in the COMMENTS and tell us :

Where is your favourite place for a sandwich?

JARROD AND RAWLINS!!!!!!
I always make my own sandwich there. Spicy jalapeno sausage, sundried tomatoes, lettuce, onions, dill mustard on wholewheat bread...AWESOME STUFF! It's my weakness, so I never turn it down, no matter how stuffed I am (such a pig right).
There's also this place called Specialty's in San Francisco where they serve gourmet sandwiches to corporates. Someone should bring it here. And Quiznos, which is a better version of Subway, fresher ingredients and served all toasty.
Okay enough... I think I gave more answers that I was supposed to ;P

La bodega - Ploughman's sandwich, cheddar+branston pickles. Yumm

All time can't go wrong sandwich (in my humble opinion) - Tuna & sweetcorn on rye (hold the butter). O'brien makes a pretty decent create your own one but my old sandwich joint in Birmingham, England (which had no name as it was a little tuck shop type set-up) used to serve it with sweet homemade bread which was devine.

oooohhhh Myer's foodcourt in Adelaide, south australia has this sandwich bar that had the most salivating salmon+cream cheese+capers+alfalfa sprouts sandwich ever!! It was fittingly called 'The devil's own'.
